Optimal Third-Harmonic Current Injection for Asymmetrical Multiphase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines

This article proposes a modeling approach and an optimization strategy to exploit third-harmonic current injection for the torque enhancement in multiphase isotropic permanent magnet synchronous machines with nonsinusoidal back electromotive forces. The is based on proper vector space decomposition associated rotational transformation, aimed properly select set of stator vectors be controlled. It presented generic (i.e., asymmetrical, arbitrary angular shift) winding configuration. related choice constant at minimizing average losses given reference by using first third spatial harmonics air-gap flux density. optimal solution has been found analytically developed detail selected asymmetrical configurations. Both numerical experimental results are good agreement theoretical analysis.
